DISRESPECT?

I was watching the usual shows on local TV last night when I saw this commercial from Party Pilipinas for their Independence Day Special which would be aired this Sunday afternoon, and this is what I saw.

Yes, artist wearing an ensemble resembling the Philippine flag. Which reminds me of the law against the wearing of our national Flag - and no, I am not sure if this commercial did break such law.

Philippine Flag Law
Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines

SECTION 34. It shall be prohibited:
e) To wear the flag in whole or in part as a costume or uniform;
g) To print, paint or attach representation of the flag on handkerchiefs, napkins, cushions, and other articles of merchandise;

This law has many loophole though, and the specification of what could be considered as our national flag is also vague.

SECTION 4. The flag of the Philippines shall be blue, white and red with an eight-rayed golden-yellow sun and three five-pointed stars, as consecrated and honored by the people.

SECTION 27. The flag shall have the following proportions. The width of the flag, 1; the length of the flag, 2; and the sides of the white triangle, 1.

SECTION 28. The technical specifications shall be as follows:
The blue color shall bear Cable No. 80173; the white color, Cable No. 80001; the red color, Cable No. 80108; and the golden yellow, Cable No. 80068.

No wonder Lawyers earn so much.

- this are not guidelines, this are laws, and people are disobeying this mostly not because of their love for our country but because it is part of pop culture.

Some may see this as patriotism, as respect to our country, we see the Philippine flag as a symbol of our freedom. But our constitution is also a symbol of our freedom, that we are independent, and thus breaking the law would mean disrespect to our country.

A law is a law. It could be change, yes. But until then we have no choice but to obey - Enjoy ! ! !
